Frequently asked questions

We answer the most common questions about pet insurance.

Do I really need cover for pre-existing conditions?

It's common for pet insurance companies to not cover recent conditions. However, at ManyPets, we have a Standard Care Pre-Existing plan that provides £1,500 of cover for conditions that ended 3 months ago, as part of an overall £7,000 vet fee limit.

This plan could be right for you if:

  • You didn’t have pet insurance before and your cat or dog has been poorly in the last two years.

  • You previously had a time-limited pet insurance policy and your pet's condition is no longer covered.

  • You previously had a lifetime pet insurance policy and made a claim. You want to switch your cover to ManyPets (good choice!) but you don’t want to be left with no cover for your pet’s pre-existing conditions.

The Standard Care Pre-Existing plan won’t be right for you if:

  • The last time your pet had signs or symptoms, advice, medication or treatment was more than two years ago (all our other plans can provide cover for this).

  • Your pet's condition is ongoing (chronic)

What happens if you no longer class my pets condition as pre-existing while on this plan?

Once your pet hasn't received treatment, medication or advice for a pre-existing condition for two years we will class this as a new condition. This means that the condition will be covered for vet fees for up to £7,000/year, instead of £1,500. If no other pre-existing conditions exist, you may choose to switch to a different plan that better suits your needs. You can call our customer service team to find out more.

Can my puppy have pre-existing conditions?

It’s a misconception about puppies and insurance that you won’t have to worry about cover for pre-existing conditions because they’re too young to have been poorly in the past.

Sadly, dogs can develop an illness at any age and some pups will be born with health issues. And as soon as they’re noted by a vet on your puppy’s veterinary records, it’ll become a pre-existing condition for insurance if you don’t already have a policy.

That’s one of the reasons why we cover pups from four weeks old – we want you to have peace of mind from the moment they join your family.

But if a vet has already noticed a health condition in your pup before you have cover, the good news is we may still be able to cover it on our Standard Care Pre-Existing plan. The plan provides £1,500 of cover for conditions that ended (have had no signs or symptoms, treatment, medication or advice) 3 months ago, as part of an overall £7,000 vet fee limit.

How do pet insurers know my dog has a pre-existing condition?

When you make a claim, your insurer will ask your vet for your dog’s medical records, so they can see if they’ve had any previous injuries or illnesses.
