A bit about Tonkinese cats

Tonkinese cats, originally bred in Canada, are the result of crossing Siamese and Burmese cats, combining the best traits of both breeds. Known for their playful personalities and striking, aqua-coloured eyes, these cats are affectionate companions that thrive on interaction and attention.

Why get cat insurance for your Tonkinese cat?

We offer a range of cat insurance plans to suit every need. Always check your plan details for limits and exclusions.

A cancer cell

Accident and illness cover

Just like any cat, Tonkinese cats can fall ill at any age. Insurance can help cover the cost of treatment, surgery and medication, so they’ll always get the care they need.

Some Tonkinese cat health problems

Cardiomyopathy

Tonkinese cats are susceptible to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a common heart disease in felines. HCM involves the thickening of the heart muscle, which can impair heart function and lead to heart failure.

Tonkinese cats are generally healthy cats, but like any breed, you might find they face certain health issues throughout their life. Cat insurance can help cover the cost of any unexpected illness that might arise – so they’ll always be able to get the care they need.

*Please note that these are general health concerns for Tonkinese cats, and individual cats may or may not experience these issues. Regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, proper exercise, and attention to breed-specific needs can help mitigate some of these health problems.

We define pre-existing conditions as:

  • Anything your pet has had treatment, medication or advice for in the 24 months before your plan starts.

  • Any medical condition that showed signs or symptoms in the 24 months before your plan starts.

If your Tonkinese cat has had a health problem within this time, we still have options for you.

Our Standard Care Pre-existing plan covers pre-existing conditions up to £1,500 per year as part of a £7,000 vet fee limit, once your Tonkinese cat has not shown signs or symptoms and has been free of treatment, medication or advice for at least three months before your policy start date.
