1. The Shire Cafe & Gelateria
This small family-run farm cafe is a little out of the way – but trust us, it’s worth the drive.
There’s a few things that make this place special. One: their homemade gelato. Two: their fresh, insanely tasty menu. And three (this is a big one): their FREE offlead bookable dog park.
That’s right, your pup can safely sniff around out in the open while you enjoy a drink, some ice cream and maybe a pizza. They’re only regularly open during the summer, so check their socials before you go.

2. Plush Cafe
If you prefer your brunch with a side of Instagram likes, look no further. Located in the heart of York, Plush Cafe has three different rooms, each with its own individual aesthetic and theme.
Their Art Deco inspired Neon room is the dog-friendly one, where you can choose from their menu of weird and wonderful desserts, drinks and brunch items. You can even order your pup a special ‘wooficinno’ so they don’t miss a second of the fun.

3. Rowntree Park Reading Cafe
This spot gets a special mention for its prime location on a great dog walking route. Like the name would suggest, the cafe is based in Rowntree Park on the south side of York’s city centre and has a terrace where dogs are welcome.
In addition to its menu of breakfasts and seasonal home-cooked meals, they also offer a full library service with plenty of books to borrow. It’s the perfect spot for taking in the scenery with your pup and a coffee.

4. The Parlormade Cafe and Scone House
If a creative cream tea is on your dog-friendly York itinerary, this cosy cafe is a must-visit. Bursting with quaint and quirky charm, the tearoom is spread over 3 floors of a beautiful 15th century timber building overlooking a bustling York market.
The star of the menu is an impressive selection of scones and sweet treats, ranging from traditional fruit fare to funkier daily changing flavours. Dogs are welcome and booking ahead of time is recommended.

5. Tykes Restaurant
The staff love dogs at the Tykes Restaurant on the Sandburn estate, so a warm welcome can always be expected here.
And thank goodness for that – the estate has a bunch of great nature trails to explore, making Tykes the perfect pit stop on a long dog walk. Settle into one of their leather chairs in the spacious converted barn and enjoy a seasonal menu crafted from fresh, locally sourced produce.
