A bit about Himalayan cats

Himalayans, with their plush coats and striking blue eyes, originate from a cross between the Siamese and Persian breeds. These affectionate cats are known for their calm demeanour and loyalty, making them perfect pets for those seeking a gentle and engaging feline friend.

Why get cat insurance for your Himalayan cat?

We offer a range of cat insurance policies to suit every need. Always check your policy details for limits and exclusions.

Accident and illness cover

Just like any cat, Himalayan cats can fall ill at any age. Insurance can help cover the cost of treatment, surgery and medication, so they’ll always get the care they need.

Some Himalayan cat health problems

Kidney disease

Himalayans are susceptible to kidney issues like polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a hereditary condition where cysts develop in the kidneys, leading to renal failure.

Himalayan cats are generally healthy cats, but like any breed, you might find they face certain health issues throughout their life. Cat insurance can help cover the cost of any unexpected illness that might arise – so they’ll always be able to get the care they need.

*Please note that these are general health concerns for Himalayan cats, and individual cats may or may not experience these issues. Regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, proper exercise, and attention to breed-specific needs can help mitigate some of these health problems.

Frequently asked questions

Everything else you may want to know about ManyPets claims for Himalayan cats.

How much does Himalayan cat insurance cost?

In the UK, the cost of insuring your cat can depend on:

  • Your pet's breed

  • Their age

  • Where you live

  • The policy you choose

The best way to find out exactly how much it’ll cost to insure your Himalayan cat is to get a quote – it only takes a few moments.

Does cat insurance cover pre-existing conditions for my Himalayan cat?

We define pre-existing conditions as:

  • Anything your pet has had treatment, medication or advice for in the 24 months before your policy starts.

  • Any medical condition that showed signs or symptoms in the 24 months before your policy starts.

  • Any illness or injury that shows signs or symptoms and/or receives treatment, medication, or advice during a waiting period.

If your Himalayan cat has had a health problem within this time, we still have options for you.

Our dedicated Pre-existing policy covers pre-existing conditions up to £1,500 per year, once your Himalayan cat has been free of treatment, medication or advice for at least three months.

Terms and conditions apply.

Does cat insurance cover travel for my Himalayan cat?

Our Complete policy includes worldwide travel cover for your Himalayan cat for up to 90 days, which can provide some cover for vet fees, cancellations and more.

You can also purchase pet travel cover for the EU as an optional extra when you take out a Regular or Pre-existing pet insurance policy.

You should always check your individual policy for cover limits and follow the local laws and rules regarding pet travel for any country that you visit.

Does cat insurance cover dental for Himalayan cats?

All of our policies have some cover for dental treatment.

Our Complete policy will cover your Himalayan cat for dental accidents and illness up to the vet fee limit of £15,000, as long as they’ve had a dental check-up within the last twelve months, and you’ve followed any vet-recommended dental treatments within six months.

All our other policies will pay for the treatment your Himalayan cat needs if they injure their teeth or mouth in an accident.

Does cat insurance cover routine care for Himalayan cats?

Cat insurance is there to cover the costs of unexpected accidents and illnesses, so our policies do not provide cover for routine treatments for your Himalayan cat. This includes routine check-ups, vaccinations, spaying or neutering, preventative dental care and microchipping.

Does cat insurance for Himalayan cats cover loss and theft?

Lost and stolen cover for your Himalayan cat is included as standard on our Complete policy and is available as an optional extra on our other policies.
