Great Dane

A bit about Great Danes

Fun fact: Great Danes originated from Germany, not Denmark! Despite their huge size, these gentle giants are popular with families thanks to their friendliness and their talent for guarding the home.

Why get dog insurance for your Great Dane?

We offer a range of dog insurance policies to suit every need. Always check your policy details for limits and exclusions.
A cancer cell

Accident and illness cover

Just like any dog, Great Danes can fall ill at any age. Insurance can help cover the cost of treatment, surgery and medication, so they’ll always get the care they need.

A heart with an exclamation mark

Emergency care

Because you never know when your Great Dane might need an unexpected (and pricey) out-of-hours trip to the vet.

A DNA helix

Hereditary conditions

Because of their genetics, Great Danes can be at higher risk of developing certain health conditions. Luckily, our lifetime policies can help cover on-going or recurring treatment costs.

Peace of mind

Feel secure knowing your Great Dane can get veterinary care in the event of an accident or illness, without worrying about the impact of an unexpected bill.

Some Great Dane health problems

Great Dane

Hip Dysplasia

This is a common genetic condition in which the hip joint doesn't develop properly. It can lead to discomfort, pain, limping, and arthritis over time.

Great Danes are generally healthy dogs, but like any breed, you might find they face certain health issues throughout their life. Dog insurance can help cover the cost of any unexpected illness that might arise – so they’ll always be able to get the care they need.

*Please note that these are general health concerns for Great Danes, and individual dogs may or may not experience these issues. Regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, proper exercise, and attention to breed-specific needs can help mitigate some of these health problems.

  • The policy you choose

The best way to find out exactly how much it’ll cost to insure your Great Dane is to get a quote – it only takes a few moments.

Does dog insurance cover pre-existing conditions for my Great Dane?

All of our policies cover pre-existing conditions that have been free from treatment, medication or vet advice for two years.

Our Complete policy will cover your Great Dane for dental accidents and illness up to the vet fee limit of £15,000, as long as they’ve had a dental check-up within the last twelve months, and you’ve followed any vet-recommended dental treatments within six months.

All our other policies will pay for the treatment your Great Dane needs if they injure their teeth or mouth in an accident.

Does dog insurance cover routine care for Great Danes?

Dog insurance is there to cover the costs of unexpected accidents and illnesses, so our policies do not provide cover for routine treatments for your Great Dane. This includes routine check-ups, vaccinations, spaying or neutering, preventative dental care and microchipping.
