Firstly, what is a pre-existing condition?

A ‘pre-existing condition’ is anything that shows signs or symptoms and/ or receives treatment, medication or advice before or during the waiting period. We cover these conditions after the waiting period, as long as 24 months have passed. We consider advice to include anything a vet observed and recorded in your pet’s clinical history.

How does our Pre-Existing policy differ from our standard policies?
The main difference is that our standard policies don’t give cover for pre-existing conditions, that have shown signs or symptoms and/or needed treatment, medication or advice in the last 24 months before the policy starts. Our Pre-Existing policy however was specifically designed to offer cover for situations just like this.

For new and renewing customers after the 1st of September 2022:
Your pet's pre-existing condition must have been free of medication, treatment and advice for at least three months, even if this overlaps with the start of your cover. If your pet needs treatment within this time, the three-month counter starts again.

Vet fees:

  • Lifetime cover up to £7,000 per year for new conditions. It resets every year.
  • Pre-existing conditions have a shared limit of £1,500 which also resets each year.

Excess:

  • We have a choice of excess options starting from £69.
