Porkie mixed breed dog

A bit about Porkies

Porkies, a spirited cross between Pomeranians and Yorkshire Terriers, are known for their lively and affectionate antics. First bred in the United States, Porkies combine the lineage of two prominent breeds with roots in Germany and England. They boast a unique mix of intelligence, tenacity, and playfulness.

Why get dog insurance for your Porkie?

We offer a range of dog insurance plans to suit every need. Always check your plan details for limits and exclusions.

Accident and illness cover

Just like any dog, Porkies can fall ill at any age. Insurance can help cover the cost of treatment, surgery and medication, so they’ll always get the care they need.

Emergency care

Because you never know when your Porkie might need an unexpected (and pricey) out-of-hours trip to the vet.

Peace of mind

Feel secure knowing your Porkie can get veterinary care in the event of an accident or illness, without worrying about the impact of an unexpected bill.

Some Porkie health problems

Luxating patella

A condition where the kneecap dislocates, leading to discomfort and potentially lameness.

Porkies are generally healthy dogs, but like any breed, you might find they face certain health issues throughout their life. Dog insurance can help cover the cost of any unexpected illness that might arise – so they’ll always be able to get the care they need.

Please note that these are general health concerns for Porkies, and individual dogs may or may not experience these issues. Regular veterinary care, a balanced diet, proper exercise, and attention to breed-specific needs can help mitigate some of these health problems.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Porkie insurance cost?

In the UK, the cost of insuring your dog can depend on:

  • Your pet's breed

  • Their age

  • Where you live

  • The plan you choose

The best way to find out exactly how much it’ll cost to insure your Porkie is to get a quote – it only takes a few moments.

Does dog insurance cover pre-existing conditions for my Porkie?

We define pre-existing conditions as:

  • Anything your pet has had treatment, medication or advice for in the 24 months before your plan starts.

  • Any medical condition that showed signs or symptoms in the 24 months before your plan starts.

  • Any illness or injury that shows signs or symptoms and/or receives treatment, medication, or advice during a waiting period.

If your Porkie has had a health problem within this time, we still have options for you.

Our Standard Care Pre-existing plan covers pre-existing conditions up to £1,500 per year as part of a £7,000 vet fee limit, once your Porkie has not showed signs or symptoms and has been free of treatment, medication or advice for at least three months before your policy start date.

Terms and conditions apply.

Our plans offer EU travel cover when going abroad with your pet with worldwide cover on Complete Care. Limits apply.

Does dog insurance cover dental for Porkies?

All of our plans have some cover for dental treatment.

Our Standard Care, Standard Care Pre-existing and Complete Care plans will cover your Porkie for dental accidents and illness up to the vet fee limit, as long as they’ve had a dental check-up within the last twelve months, and you’ve followed any vet-recommended dental treatments within six months.

Our Essential Care plan covers up to £1,000 for dental accidents; it doesn't cover dental illness.

Does dog insurance cover routine care for Porkies?
