A waiting period, which begins the day after you buy your policy / add a new pet to an existing policy, is a set amount of time you’ll need to wait before making a claim on your insurance.
If you’re switching from another insurer and your pet has had 12 months of continuous cover up until your policy start date, then good news! With the exception of bilateral conditions and first pregnancies (more details below), we’ll waive our waiting periods to ensure you have continuous cover.
If your pet has not had 12 months of continuous cover, then the following waiting periods will apply. That means you’ll have to pay for any treatment costs incurred during this time.
- Any accident that occurs within 48 hours of the policy start date.
- Any illness that occurs within 14 days of the policy start date. That condition will then be classed as pre-existing for 12 months.
- If your pet passes away due to illness within 14 days of the policy start date.
If your pet has been treated for a bilateral condition in the last 24 months, the waiting period for claiming for this condition is 12 months.
If your pet experiences any complications from a first pregnancy, the waiting period for claiming for this is 6 months.
There are no waiting periods if you’re renewing an existing policy with us.
