Our award-winning pet insurance

We offer pet insurance plans that pet parents like you actually want.

Why we're different

Not all pet insurance is the same, and we do things that nobody else does. See our handbooks for cover terms. For MoneyBack T&Cs, read our page.

One excess per policy year

Unlike many other pet insurance providers, we don't charge an excess per condition. Instead, it's one excess per year - it's easier to budget for and easier on your pocket.

20% of your money back

MoneyBack gives you 20% of your premium back if you haven't needed to make a claim in your policy year. Available to add to most of our plans.

One of the highest vet fee covers around

Choose up to £20k of vet fee cover, so you can give your pet the treatment they need, when they need it.

Cover for pre-existing conditions

All plans cover pre-existing conditions ending more than two years before your plan starts, or choose the Standard Care Pre-existing Plan for more recent issues. Read our handbook for the full details.

No waiting period when switching

You don't need to wait for 14 days to get cover if you switch to us from another insurer you've been with for over 12 continuous months (excludes pregnancy).

Not all insurers have behavioural cover

But we do. Get cover for vet-referred behavioural therapy as a result of an accident or illness on our Complete Care plan.

Complementary treatments

We cover vet-recommended complementary treatment like hydrotherapy within your vet fee limit. Our complementary treatment cover ranges from £500 to £3,000 depending on your plan.

What vets really think about pet insurance

Hearing the words ‘they’re insured’ from a pet owner is such a relief to us as vets. It means we both know that the cost of treatment becomes a less significant barrier in major medical decision making. Our choices get to be made primarily on what we all agree is best for the pet.

Pet parenthood can get tough, and it's hard to know what's what. Thankfully, our expert-led articles are here to guide you through every part of pet parenthood.

Pet insurance FAQs

All the questions you’ve ever wanted to ask about pet insurance.

How does pet insurance work?

When you take out a pet insurance plan, you’ll pay an annual or monthly premium to a pet insurance provider. The price is specific to you and your pet. If your pet has an accident or falls ill, you can claim on your plan to cover the costs of any veterinary bills.

Although there are many types of pet insurance available, we only offer lifetime plans. That means whatever vet fee limit you pick, it’ll refresh each year when you renew your plan. You can claim up to the full vet fee limit every year and we’ll continue to provide cover for conditions your pet may develop during their lifetime.

A pet insurance plan may cover some costs if your pet is lost or stolen, passes away, or has legal action taken against them.

How do I get a pet insurance quote?

You can get a quote here.

To get a quote, we'll need your pet's:

  • Age

  • Breed

  • Details and address

  • Gender

  • Name

  • Price (that you paid for them)

  • Spay/neuter status

What type of pet insurance is right for me?

It depends on your needs. We have a range of plans with different cover levels.

For example, let's say your pet has pre-existing conditions. If your pet hasn’t shown signs or symptoms or needed vet treatment, medication or advice two or more years before your policy start date, our plans should cover the condition (terms apply).

Our Standard Care Pre-existing plan can provide cover for a pet that’s had a more recent health issue. We’ll cover a condition as long as your pet’s been free from signs, symptoms, treatment, medicine or advice for three months before your policy start date.

So, it depends on you, your pet and your circumstances. It's why it's really important to pick a provider that's right for you.

Does pet insurance cover vaccinations?

No, vaccinations aren’t covered by pet insurance because they’re classed as routine procedures.

How does pet insurance excess work?

The excess is an amount you pay to an insurer when they pay for a claim. Our excess guide covers more.

What's the minimum age my pet has to be for me to get insurance?

Most insurers won't cover pets until they are a few weeks old. But you can get a quote before they reach that age and buy a plan that starts when your pet is old enough.

Our plans cover pets that are at least four weeks old. Other insurers may have different minimum age limits.

Does pet insurance have a maximum age limit for pets?

Most of our plans have no upper age limit and will cover pets of any age. But some companies may not offer new plans to older pets.

We do charge a 20% co-payment when your pet turns seven at renewal.

Co-payments are a fixed percentage you will pay for your pet's treatment. We calculate this percentage from your vet bill minus the excess.

Our co-payment guide explains more.

What doesn’t pet insurance cover?

Pet insurance is for the unexpected. It can’t cover the cost of routine care like:

  • Microchipping

  • Preventative dental care

  • Spaying and neutering

  • Vaccinations
